Mayor Bret Rohde recently addressed the Tremonton community, noting several significant events occurring as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary. The Mayor highlighted recent engagement from local students and upcoming commemorative activities in Tremonton.
Students from Alice C. Harris Intermediate School recently sent a series of letters to City Hall containing various requests for the town, including developments such as a water park, a mall, and a convenience store closer to the school. Mayor Rohde stated that these letters were read by both the Mayor and the City Council to ensure student voices are heard within the local government.
In preparation for the July 4, 2026, anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Tremonton has officially registered with America250 Utah. Banners will be placed around Tremonton in the coming weeks to mark the occasion. Additionally, a student essay and visual art contest is being held by Utah, offering scholarships for K-12 students who connect the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence to their lives.
The American Legion will host a 250th Anniversary Walk on Saturday, May 23, 20 6. The event is scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM at Midland Square. During the walk, the community will recognize Gold Star Families and honor the Battle Cross Memorial.
In mid-May, the Box Elder County Chamber of Commerce will travel to Washington D.C. for meetings with the federal delegation. Mayor Rohde noted he will join this trip personally, stating that his participation is funded privately rather than through city or Chamber funds.
The Mayor concluded by encouraging residents to thank veterans and engage with their children regarding the significance of the nation's 250-year history, noting that community strength grows when citizens support one another.
