Provo City School District is celebrating National School Lunch Week from Oct. 12–16 with a special theme titled "Cafeteria Circus: Where School Meals Take Center Stage!" according to a report published Oct. 13.
Throughout the week, school cafeterias will feature colorful decorations, circus-themed photo booths, and special menus. The celebration is designed to recognize school nutrition programs and the Child Nutrition employees who serve students each day. Activities may include Golden Ticket surprises, Big Top prize drawings, circus trivia, and coloring contests at elementary schools. Students and staff are encouraged to wear bright colors, stripes, or polka dots as permitted by their schools.
The week features specific circus-themed lunch options for each day. On Monday, Oct. 12, students can choose between Pizza Croissants or Circus Corn Dogs. Tuesday, Oct. 13, offers Tumbling Tachos or Ringleader Burgers. Wednesday, Oct. 14, includes Spaghetti & Cannonball Meatballs or The Greatest Slice on Earth! pizza. Thursday, Oct. 15, features Tightrope Tacos or The Magic Muffin Meal, which includes a scratch-made muffin, string cheese, yogurt, and animal crackers. On Friday, Oct. 16, the menu includes Lion Tamer Pot Pie or Big Top Cheesy Dunk, a whole-grain cheese-stuffed breadstick with marinara sauce.
Colorful fruit and vegetable bars will also be featured to highlight the importance of fresh produce in a nutritious lunch. The district noted that the celebration is intended for everyone, including students who bring lunch from home, to ensure all students feel included. The festivities aim to recognize the work of Child Nutrition teams, who manage food safety and meal preparation to help students refuel during the school day.
While the circus-themed menus and activities will conclude on Friday, Oct. 16, the district stated that the work of feeding Provo students continues throughout the school year.
