SALT LAKE CITY — A man died after a crash between his motorcycle and a tour bus in Kane County Monday night.
Details of the fatal collision
The Department of Public Safety said the man was driving a Yamaha motorcycle on state Route 89 around 5:40 p.m., crossing into Utah from Arizona. A Vanhool tour bus with 29 people on board was moving north behind the motorcycle, headed for Kanab for the night.
Bus passengers include UK tourists
Utah Highway Patrol said many of the people on board the bus were UK tourists.
Sequence of the motorcycle U-turn
The motorcycle attempted to make a U-turn, pulling to the right shoulder of the road and failing to yield to the tour bus approaching quickly behind it, according to DPS. The tour bus hit the motorcycle on the front driver's side head-on.
Motorcyclist ejected and declared deceased
The 45-year-old man driving the motorcycle was ejected, landing in the southbound lane on the right side of the bus. Lt. Cameron Roden with UHP said the man died shortly after 7 p.m.
Bus driver injured in crash
DPS said the tour bus skidded left and came to rest off the roadway facing west, with the motorcycle trapped under its right bumper. The driver of the bus was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Two others on board complained of minor bumps but were not treated at a hospital.
