The Utah Highway Patrol has released information concerning a fatal collision that took place Monday afternoon on Interstate 215 in Taylorsville.
The incident occurred near Redwood Road when the hood of an eastbound Hyundai Elantra became unlatched and flipped up, according to a statement from the UHP.
According to the UHP statement, the driver of the Elantra stopped the vehicle between lanes two and three. A semi-truck traveling behind the Elantra was unable to stop and struck the rear of the Hyundai.
The driver of the Elantra sustained fatal injuries in the collision. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.
Traffic lanes were closed for approximately four hours while investigators examined the crash scene.
