The Mapleton Planning Commission scheduled a meeting for August 13, 2026, to consider a home occupation permit for an in-home preschool, according to an August 6 agenda.
The meeting is set to take place at 6:00 p.m. at 125 West Community Center Way (400 North) in Mapleton, Utah.
The applicant, Laurie Nelson, is seeking a permit to operate a small in-home daycare within an existing dwelling located at 952 West 1700 North. The proposed business would provide care for eight students or fewer.
According to the staff report, the daycare would operate Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The space dedicated to the business would occupy less than 500 square feet in the home's basement. The property is a 0.4-acre lot in the Seals subdivision featuring a single-family dwelling completed in 1994.
Staff recommended approval of the home occupation permit with several conditions. These include a required fire inspection prior to operation and the submission of a copy of a Health Department License.
Other conditions include maintaining compliance with Mapleton City Code Section 18.84.380, limiting classes to eight students, and ensuring no more than six vehicles are parked onsite during operating hours, excluding pick-up and drop-off periods.
The meeting agenda also includes the consideration of the Planning Commission meeting minutes from July 9, 2026, as a consent item.
