A woman was booked into the Utah County Jail following a disturbance during a Utah County Planning Commission meeting on Oct. 20, 2026, after she allegedly struck a deputy and was taken to the ground during her removal from the chambers. The incident occurred while commissioners were discussing ordinances related to data centers in Utah County.
Disruption During Commission Meeting
According to a press release from the Utah County Sheriff's Office, the disturbance began while the Planning Commission was deliberating on ordinances concerning data centers and Utah County. During the meeting, several individuals were being disruptive, prompting commissioners to advise the group that continued disruptive behavior would result in removal from the meeting.
Following a vote by the commissioners, the disruptive behavior continued, leading the commission to seek the removal of the individuals involved. While one male was asked to leave the meeting by Utah County Sheriff's Office deputies and departed without incident, a female deputy's attempt to remove another woman led to a physical confrontation.
Physical Confrontation in Chambers
The Utah County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies attempted to have the female exit the meeting, but she refused and began arguing with the deputies. As additional deputies arrived to assist in removing her from the row of chairs, a deputy took hold of the woman to move her.
During the attempt to remove her, the woman struck a deputy in the groin. Two other individuals then grabbed the woman to prevent her from being removed from the meeting. The group of three was subsequently moved from the chambers to the lobby, where deputies worked to separate the parties. During this process, the female, the deputy she struck, and the deputy involved all went to the ground.
Medical Evaluation on Scene
After the woman stopped resisting arrest and was secured in hand restraints, she reported that her jaw was hurting and requested to use the restroom. Deputies called Provo Fire Department EMS to the scene to evaluate her and facilitated her request to use the restroom.
EMS personnel did not find any emergent or immediate injuries and advised the woman that she could potentially seek further medical care at a later time.
Charges and Citations Issued
The woman was booked into the Utah County Jail on charges of Class A Disrupting a Meeting, Class B Interference with an Arresting Officer, and Class B Assault on a Police Officer. The two individuals who had attempted to prevent the woman's removal were released on citations for Disrupting a Meeting and Interference with an Arrest.
Ongoing Review of Incident
Following the disturbance, the Utah County Planning Commission was able to proceed with the meeting, allowing numerous persons to voice their concerns regarding data centers during the appointed lecture time. The Utah County Sheriff's Office stated that the incident is currently being reviewed by supervisory personnel.
