Tooele City police identified 37-year-old Silvia Bahena-Mota as the woman killed late Sunday night in an apparent domestic assault, according to a September 2 report.
Daniel Ruesga, identified in arrest documents as the victim's current or former domestic partner, was arrested for the alleged murder.
Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Kings Landing Road at 11:58 p.m. Monday following reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found a white Toyota Tundra pickup truck, registered to Ruesga, crashed into the rear of a white Tesla located inside a garage.
Officers discovered bullet casings outside the driver-side door of the Tesla and found a deceased female in the driver's seat. According to arrest documents, Ruesga admitted to intentionally crashing into the vehicle and shooting the victim multiple times with a handgun following an argument.
The victim's four children were inside the residence during the incident and heard the event before finding their mother deceased.
Ruesga was booked into the Tooele County jail early Tuesday. He is being held without bail on charges of murder, domestic violence, and four counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child.
Tooele City police extended their deepest heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Bahena-Mota as they navigate the loss.
