The Orem Cultural Arts Advisory Committee met on August 18, 2026, at the City of Orem Council Conference Room, according to draft minutes published September 9. No approvals were conducted during the meeting because there were not enough members present to reach a quorum.
Pete Wolfey discussed the Taste of Orem event, which was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026. The Events committee requested assistance from the Arts Committee to serve as masters of ceremonies throughout the day.
Regarding public art, Gina Cavallo reported that a subcommittee scheduled a smaller meeting for members to inspect the State Street area. An update regarding this inspection is expected for the council in October.
Stephanie Goodman presented various options for city art and discussed potential locations. The discussion included exploring media such as etched concrete sound barriers, bridge and pedestrian railings, decorative walkways, and streetscape elements like art-wrapped trash cans, decorated light pole attachments, bus and train stops, and painted utility boxes. Other options included standalone art such as sculptures, murals, roundabout centerpieces, and bronze figures.
Target sites for these art projects include City Parks, State Street light posts, freeway underpasses, the City Hall complex, transit stops, fire stations, and the new water facility on 400 W/400 South. Future steps involve drafting an RFP/RFQ framework, compiling an artist list, conducting a cost analysis, building a digital site map, and aligning with the Master Arts Plan team.
The meeting adjourned following a motion by Lara Beene and a second by Gina Cavallo, with the motion passing unanimously. The next meeting was scheduled for Sept. 15, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.
