Research into low-power water resistojet performance aims to provide small satellite missions with meaningful maneuverability. According to a paper titled Experimental and Analytical Investigation of Low-Power Resistojet Performance for Small Satellites, these thrusters are attractive for small spacecraft because they are simple, nontoxic, and compatible with typical power budgets.
The research addresses the difficulty of achieving efficient performance at low power levels. The study utilized coupled thermo-fluid modeling, parametric trade studies, and experimental characterization of low-power water resistojet prototypes using a low-cost vacuum testbed.
