The Utah State Eastern men's soccer team opened its 2026-27 campaign with an upset victory over preseason No. 4 Mohave Community College, according to a report published August 23. The Eagles, a roster consisting of nine sophomores and 26 freshmen, secured the 1-0 win in Bullhead City, Arizona.
The match against Mohave Community College remained a scoreless tie through the end of the first half. In the 56th minute, Leandro Robles, a sophomore from West Jordan, Utah, scored the game's only goal on an assist from freshman Tanner Kunz. Xavier Peregrina recorded four saves to earn a shutout in the 1-0 victory.
Following the win in Arizona, the Eagles traveled to Henderson, NV, to face the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes. Utah State Eastern secured a 6-0 victory with several early goals. Luis Velasco scored in the seventh minute following an assist from Rodrigo Palacios, and Leandro Suarez Soruco scored one minute later assisted by Oliver Palafox. Ishmail Shehata scored in the 43rd minute on an assist by Christian Poll, and then scored again in the 67th minute. Christian Poll provided assists for both Kash Peterson in the 80th minute and for himself in the 87th minute. Xavier Peregrina recorded two saves to pitch the second shutout of the season.
The Eagles' non-conference schedule included a road trip to Wyoming and Nebraska. They were scheduled to play No. 18 Casper College on Thursday, Aug. 27, and Western Nebraska Community College on Saturday, Aug. 29.
