Intermountain now offers a service for the quick evaluation and treatment of athlete's foot through clinical pharmacists. The program is designed to provide relief on demand by allowing patients to consult with a pharmacist over the phone.
The service costs $35 plus the cost of medication and is eligible for FSA and HSA. It is available for patients 18 years and older residing in Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Nevada.
The service is intended for individuals experiencing symptoms localized to the feet, such as redness, itching, burning, or flaking. To qualify, patients must be at least 18 years old and must not have a fever greater than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, diabetes, or an immunocompromising condition like HIV or cancer.
If a patient does not qualify for the service, the clinical pharmacist can assist with a referral to an Intermountain provider for evaluation. During the process, patients will need to provide basic information, answer symptom questions, and upload two pictures of the affected area on their feet.
After submitting the online intake form, a clinical pharmacist will contact the patient within one business day between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. MST to determine qualification. If a prescription is issued, medication can be sent to a preferred pharmacy or delivered via the Intermountain Home Delivery Pharmacy, which typically arrives within 3-5 business days with free shipping.
Potential costs for over-the-counter treatment options range from $5 to $20, while prescription treatment options may range from $0 to $30. The $35 consultation fee is only charged if the patient qualifies for the service.
Intermountain pharmacists may make up to two phone calls and one email attempt if a patient cannot be reached immediately. A pharmacist generally cannot provide a prescription without speaking to the patient first.
For follow-up questions or concerns regarding prescribed medication side effects, members of the pharmacy team can be reached at 855-779-3960.
