BYU football suffered a 39-31 double overtime loss to UCF on Saturday, October 24, 2026, according to a October 25 report. The defeat comes just one week after the Cougars secured a 28-24 victory over No. 2-ranked Notre Dame.
The Cougars struggled with several issues during the game at the Bounce House, including a lack of a serious run game, turnovers, and untimely penalties. BYU entered the contest with a No. 12 ranked total defense, but UCF's offense gained 463 total yards. UCF quarterback Keyone Jenkins completed 25 of 41 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Duke Watson contributed 93 yards on 15 carries for the Knights.
BYU's offense struggled on the ground, with Sione Moa recording 36 yards on 13 carries and Bear Bachmeier totaling 37 yards on 15 attempts. A Bachmeier pass was intercepted near the end of the first half, allowing UCF to take a 17-14 lead into the break. Despite the setbacks, BYU forced overtime when Matthias Dunn kicked a 47-yard field goal, and UCF's field goal attempt was blocked by Faletau Satuala.
In overtime, Legend Glasker caught a 28-yard touchdown pass to lead BYU into the second overtime period. However, UCF responded with a touchdown pass from Jenkins to Grayson Brousseau to secure the win. The Cougars' final attempt to match the score ended when a 4th-down pass to tight end Walker Lyons was dropped in the endzone.
BYU coach Kalani Sitake attributed the loss to uncommon issues in the defensive unit, specifically noting an inability to tackle effectively. Sitake noted that UCF's skill in space made the Cougars miss tackles and put them in uncomfortable positions.
Following the loss, BYU receiver Kyler Kasper stated the team intends to focus on upcoming games and move past the frustration. The Cougars are scheduled to play Arizona State next.
