Utah Valley University provides a minor in Constitutional Studies aimed at helping students develop a deeper understanding of the foundations of the U.S. Constitution and its key principles.
The program focuses on how the interpretation and application of the Constitution affect the operation of the United States government as well as day-to-day life.
The minor is described as an ideal path for students considering careers that include law school or those seeking a better understanding of important constitutional issues of the current era.
Core requirements for the 12-credit core include CNST 4720 Foundations of American Constitutionalism, CNST 4790 US Constitution, CNST 4795 Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, and POLS 3250 Introduction to Law and Politics.
Students must also complete 9 credits of elective requirements. Available electives include courses such as Political Ideologies, International Law, US Economic Development and History, Constitutional History to Plessy 1896, and Constitutional History since Plessy 1896.
Other options for electives include Modern Britain, Constitutional Law, Constitutional Criminal Rights, Framing of the US Constitution, and Comparative Constitutionalism, or any other courses approved by a Coordinator or Chair.
