SR-92 closure marks the first seasonal winter road closure of the year

SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 29, 2026) — The Utah Department of Transportation will close the Alpine Loop (SR-92) for the winter Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 a.m. It will be UDOT’s first seasonal winter road closure of the year.

The closure covers the mountain section between Pine Hollow in American Fork Canyon and Aspen Grove above Sundance. Drivers will no longer be able to travel between American Fork Canyon and Provo Canyon using the Alpine Loop.

UDOT closes several high-elevation roads each winter to keep drivers safe when heavy snow and rapidly changing conditions make travel hazardous. These roads remain closed through the winter, with reopening dates dependent on weather, snowpack and maintenance needs.

Drivers can still reach Sundance via Provo Canyon and Tibble Fork Reservoir via American Fork Canyon, weather and road conditions permitting.

Before heading into the mountains, check the UDOT Traffic website for current conditions and visit UDOT’s seasonal roads page for closure updates.
