The Salt Lake City-based LEGO reseller stated that the decision follows a social media campaign and an internal investigation that uncovered significant operational failures. The company also identified issues regarding document recovery during recent management transitions.
Resolution with Bryan Mansell
Bricks & Minifigs leadership said they have reached out to collector Bryan Mansell to reach a mutual resolution. The company expressed a willingness to discuss dropping a lawsuit against Mansell, offering to review spreadsheets and point-of-sale data to ensure he is compensated for any unaccounted items.
Investigation into Star Wars collection
The investigation centered on an unauthorized private consignment arrangement involving a Star Wars LEGO collection belonging to Ed Mansell, father of Bryan Mansell. Bricks & Minifigs officials said the investigation uncovered three different sets of books managed by a previous owner, Chrystal Law/Gorman, regarding the collection.
Discrepancies in collection valuation
While a $200,000 figure for the collection had circulated on social media in 2023, the company stated that value was never documented and was instead used for promotional purposes. New evidence suggests the collection is more accurately valued between $95,000 and $100,000.
Obtaining necessary documentation
Bricks & Minifigs Chief Executive Officer Ammon McNeff said the company finally obtained enough documentation to proceed with a resolution after long-term requests for information went unanswered.
Challenges with previous management
Chief Operating Officer Matt McNeff added that the incoming franchisees were not prepared for the forensic accounting challenges presented by the previous owner's undisclosed side agreements and use of personal email accounts to manage company-marked data.
