Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib stated that the party is organized and ready to compete for U.S. House and Senate seats, as well as statewide offices, with a focus on protecting freedoms and lowering costs.
The party's lineup for the upcoming general election includes several high-profile nominees. Attorney General Phil Weiser is running for Governor, while U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate. Other key nominees include Secretary of State Jena Griswold for Attorney General and Amanda Gonzalez for Secretary of State.
In congressional races, the party has identified several key targets. The Democratic nominees for various districts include Melat Kiros for the 1st Congressional District, Eileen Laubacher for the 4th, Jessica Killin for the 5th, Jason Crow for the 6th, Brittany Pettersen for the 7th, and Manny Rutinel for the 8th. Additionally, Jeff Bridges is running for State Treasurer.
Party leadership expressed a commitment to flipping seats in the 3rd, 5th, and 8th Congressional Districts. Senator Hickenlooper noted that the party's effort is focused on expanding healthcare access and supporting working families.
To support these efforts, the Colorado Democratic Party has relaunched the 2026 Colorado County Comeback. This initiative aims to invest in county parties and local candidates to build long-term infrastructure and Democratic power across the state.
The program provides grants, training, and staff support for local races. Congressman Jason Crow has pledged $20,000 toward this year's program, which builds on previous investments made during the 2024 election cycle.
