A rollover crash on state Route 18 in St. George left a man trapped and injured Monday afternoon, according to police.
Emergency crews responded to the scene near mile marker 6 shortly before 3 p.m. Officers found an SUV on its side more than 45 feet off the roadway with the driver still inside, St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell said.
Firefighters extricated the driver, a man in his late 30s, who was conscious but very confused, Mitchell told St. George News.
The man was transported by ambulance to St. George Regional Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Investigators stated the SUV was traveling north on SR-18 when it veered off the highway and rolled before coming to rest on its side. Investigators believe the driver likely experienced a medical issue before losing control of the vehicle, Mitchell said. As a result, no citations have been issued in connection with the crash.
The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was later pulled upright and towed from the scene.
Because the crash occurred well off the roadway, traffic impacts were minimal. No update on the driver's condition was available as of Tuesday afternoon.
Responding agencies included the St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department, Utah Department of Transportation Incident Management Team, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Gold Cross Ambulance.
