The Northridge High Cardinelles drill team has been named the 5A team of the month for September by the UHSAA, according to a report published October 9, 2026. The team, which consists of 27 girls, has gained recognition for its precision and commitment to sportsmanship across the state.
The Cardinelles have a history of excellence in sportsmanship, winning the state 5A award for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons and placing in the top three for 2025-26. During the 2025-26 season, the team won three pre-qualifying awards and the Region 5 sportsmanship award before finishing in the top three at the state meet. Head coach Alaina Rupe noted that the sportsmanship award is decided by competing dance teams and coaches who value teams that inspire and support others on competition days.
The program operates as a year-round sport, with athletes training throughout the summer to prepare for football season performances and for a competitive season in December and January. Upcoming scheduled competitions include a meet at Southern Utah University on Dec. 12, a meet at Davis on Dec. 19, and a meet in Bountiful on Jan. 9. The Region 5 meet is scheduled for Jan. 18 at Roy High, followed by the state championship quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals scheduled for Jan. 25-30 at UVU.
The coaching staff includes head coach Alaina Rupe, assistant Mariah Daniels, and assistants Hallie Mendoza and Kennedy Hendricks. The team's current captains are Lexi Myers, Ayo Pope, Brooklyn Clark, Marley Rausch, and Olivia Perry. A joint performance by the Cardinelles, the Cheer Squad, and the Dance Company is scheduled for the Northridge and Clearfield football game on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
The Cardinelles maintain a rigorous schedule, including Wednesday evening technique and conditioning sessions that involve weight lifting and strength training. While the team performs at various sporting events, their primary focus remains on developing leadership and character in their athletes.
