Utah State University will hold an inauguration ceremony to celebrate Brad L. Mortensen as the institution's 18th president. The event is set for Friday, January 16, with doors opening at 2:15 p.m. and the program beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall in Logan, Utah.
The inauguration program features several notable speakers and participants. Remarks are scheduled from Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox, Utah State Higher Education Commissioner Geoffrey T. Landward, Utah Board of Higher Education Chair Amanda Covington, and Utah State University Board of Trustees Chair Tessa White. The ceremony will also include a greeting from Jason Walker, Chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, and a welcome by USUSA Student Body President Brandon Sorensen.
Musical performances for the event include the National Anthem performed by the Utah State University Choir, a rendition of The Scotsman Piano performed by President Mortensen, and The Scotsman and Fight Song performed by the Utah State Band and Spirit Squad. An ice cream social will follow the ceremony in the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall lobby.
President Mortensen joins Utah State University following more than two decades of leadership in higher education, most recently serving as president of Weber State University. His professional background includes roles within the Utah System of Higher Education and the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget.
As a first-generation college graduate and alumnus of Utah State, Mortensen's vision for the university focuses on student success and accelerating research and innovation. He aims to ensure every Aggie statewide has the support to succeed while maintaining the university's status as a premier Research 1 land-grant university.
