The Utah State Eastern women's soccer team began the 2026-27 season facing a challenging schedule against highly ranked opponents, according to a report published August 23.
The Eagles roster is noted for its youth, featuring only seven sophomores among the 30 players on the team.
In their season opener in Thatcher, Arizona, the Eagles faced preseason No. 16 Eastern Arizona College. Eastern Arizona scored within the first five minutes, though Brookley Rasmussen scored for the Eagles in the 27th minute. Eastern Arizona scored again in the 31st minute to lead 2-1 at halftime. Despite three second-half shots from the Eagles, Eastern Arizona scored two additional goals to win 4-1.
The Eagles then traveled to face No. 2 Arizona Western College. Following a scoreless first half bolstered by 12 saves from sophomore goalkeeper Haygen Haycock, the Matadors offense scored four goals in the second half. The match ended in a 4-0 defeat for the Eagles.
The Eagles' final non-conference matchups include a game against No. 20 Casper College on Thursday, Aug. 27, followed by a matchup with Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on Saturday, Aug. 29.
