Alpine School District is undergoing a transition into three new school districts, with operations expected to continue under the current structure until June 30, 2027. The reconfiguration aims to establish three strong districts: Aspen Peaks School District, Lake Mountain School District, and Timpanogos School District.
The Aspen Peaks School District will serve the municipalities of Alpine, American Fork, Cedar Hills, Highland, Lehi, and the Utah County portion of Draper. This district includes 24 schools, comprising 4 high schools, 4 intermediate schools, 16 elementary schools, and 2 special purpose schools, serving 25,870 students. Transportation for this district involves 76 bus routes and 392 bus runs.
Lake Mountain School District will include the municipalities of Cedar Fort, Eagle Mountain, Fairfield, and Saratoga Springs, as well as unincorporated parts of Utah County west of Lehi. This district consists of 29 schools, including 4 high schools, 5 intermediate schools, 20 elementary schools, and 2 special purpose schools. It serves 23,390 students via 61 bus routes and 247 bus runs.
Timpanogos School District will encompass the municipalities of Lindon, Orem, Pleasant Grove, and Vineyard.
Regarding the transition process, officials stated there are no immediate changes for schools or employees. Alpine School District will maintain regular scheduling, staffing, budgeting, and programming at the school level, with a focus on ensuring student learning remains a priority and minimizing disruptions.
For employees, the district noted that people are the most important resource in the organization. While nothing in state law provides additional job protection to at-will or provisional employees, Alpine employees are encouraged to apply for positions as they are posted in the three new districts, including their current roles.
The transition involves several key milestones that remain subject to the needs of new superintendents and school boards.
