Springville police arrested a Bluffdale man following a fatal stabbing early Saturday morning that left a 28-year-old man dead, according to a press release issued by the Springville Police Department. Jaxson Clift, 23, faces several felony charges including aggravated murder after authorities identified him as a suspect in the incident.
Suspect Arrested Without Incident
The investigation began at approximately 3:15 a.m. on July 11, 2026, when officers and medical personnel responded to a residence in Springville following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the 28-year-old male victim suffering from stab wounds. The man was in critical condition when he was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, the Springville Police Department said.
Following the discovery of the victim, detectives opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. During the course of that investigation, officers identified and located a suspect. The Springville Police Department said the suspect and the victim were recent acquaintances.
Criminal Charges Filed
According to the department, the arrest was completed without incident with the assistance of the Utah County Major Crimes Unit and the Metro SWAT Team.
Clift, 23, of Bluffdale, was taken into custody and booked into jail. According to the department's release, he faces charges including aggravated murder, aggravated assault, obstruction of justice, and criminal mischief.
Ongoing Investigation
The Springville Police Department said the specific motive and the events leading up to the stabbing remain unclear, and that the circumstances surrounding the incident are under active investigation. The department noted that Utah's legal framework for offenses against the individual classifies criminal homicide and aggravated assault under Title 76, Chapter 5 of the Utah Code.
In its release, the department expressed condolences to those affected, stating, "Our hearts go out to the victim's family and friends for this tragic loss."
