Registration is officially open for the Utah Human Race, an event scheduled for Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 26, in Sandy. According to an Oct. 29 statement from the Utah Food Bank, thousands of participants are expected to gather to support efforts to fight hunger throughout the state.
The event features 5K and 10K race options for participants. Those registering can also create personal fundraising pages to send to family and friends to help support the cause. The Utah Food Bank noted that 1 in 5 Utah kids are currently facing hunger. Participants may also choose to dress in festive costumes during the event.
The Utah Food Bank is also seeking volunteers to assist with the event. Volunteer shifts are scheduled to begin between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., depending on the specific task. Roles include assisting with setup, cheering on participants, and helping the race run smoothly on the morning of Nov. 26.
The Utah Human Race is a tradition that has been held for over two decades. This year's event carries significance as food insecurity in Utah is currently higher than it was during the pandemic. The organization noted that every dollar raised and every mile completed helps ensure neighbors have access to necessary food during a time of growing demand.
Registration is currently open for the race. The Utah Food Bank noted that shirts are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are often sold out before registration concludes; this year's race shirt color is navy blue.
