The Utah Department of Transportation announced the closure of the ramp from eastbound I-80 to southbound I-215. The closure began at 8 p.m. on Monday night and continued until 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
UDOT stated that because other ramp closures were already in place, drivers lacked direct access between the I-80 and I-215 interchange during this period.
Drivers traveling on eastbound I-80 could detour onto southbound Bangerter Highway and then eastbound SR-20 to return to southbound I-215, according to UDOT. Crews were set to perform work including paving ramp connections, replacing barriers, and restriping the road.
Additional closures and restrictions were noted as part of the I-215 West Improved project:
The eastbound I-80 to northbound I-215 ramp was closed through July 20.
The westbound I-80 to northbound I-215 ramp was closed through July 20.
The westbound I-80 to southbound I-215 ramp was scheduled to be closed through mid-August.
Redwood Road to northbound I-215 was closed through July 2027.
North Temple from Redwood Road to 2200 West was scheduled for a complete closure from 8 p.m. on Friday, July 17, until the early morning hours of Monday, July 20. This closure impacted UTA's TRAX, requiring a bus bridge. Daytime lane closures on North Temple were expected to continue through August.
Nightly lane closures were scheduled for California Avenue from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Monday, July 20. Additionally, the ramp from Redwood Road to southbound I-215 was reduced to one lane every night until July 20, and northbound I-215 faced nightly lane closures between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. through July 20.
