The First Presidency announced the site location for the El Paso Texas Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in a report published October 19. A site map for the future temple was also released via ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
Planned as a single-story building of approximately 22,300 square feet, the temple will be built on a 6.4-acre site at the northeast corner of Northern Pass Drive and Paseo del Norte Boulevard in El Paso, Texas.
The announcement comes exactly 42 years after the dedication of the Dallas Texas Temple. The El Paso location was originally identified by then-Church President Russell M. Nelson during the October 2024 general conference.
Texas is currently home to nearly 400,000 Latter-day Saints across more than 750 wards and branches. The state now has 10 houses of the Lord that are either operating, under construction, or announced.
Five temples in Texas are currently operating: Dallas, Houston, Lubbock, San Antonio, and McAllen. The Fort Worth Texas Temple is scheduled to be dedicated Jan. 10, 2027.
Two other Texas temples are currently in construction phases: the Austin temple, which has been under construction since August 2024, and the Fairview temple, which began construction in February 2026.
This leaves two temples in the planning stages, being the Fort Bend temple, announced in April 2024, and the El Paso temple, announced in October 2024.
Church membership in Texas has seen significant growth in recent decades, rising from 132,000 members in 1985 to just over 210,000 in 2000.
