Dr. Philip Dennison, a Professor in the School of Environment, Society & Sustainability at the University of Utah, continues his work specializing in remote sensing research. With nearly three decades of experience, his research focuses on ecosystem disturbance, including drought and insect attack, as well as vegetation recovery following wildfire.
Research Focus and Expertise
His expertise includes the remote sensing of fuels, active fire, and the detection and mapping of point source greenhouse gas emissions based on shortwave infrared absorption features.
NASA Collaborations and Firefighting Safety
Over the last ten years, Dr. Dennison has led the development of various applications using remote sensing and geographic information science to enhance firefighter safety. He currently serves as a member of NASA’s FireSense Implementation Team, where he works on developing real-time remote sensing products for firefighting operations.
Landsat Mission Contributions
Additionally, Dr. Dennison is a member of the NASA/USGS Landsat Science Team. In this role, he is leading the development of applications that utilize new bands for the Landsat Next mission.
