AJ Dybantsa made an immediate impact in his NBA Summer League debut on Thursday in Las Vegas, leading the Washington Wizards to a 92-88 win over Darryn Peterson and the Utah Jazz. The game featured the first meeting between the top two picks of the 2026 NBA Draft.
Dybantsa, the No. 1 overall pick, finished with a game-high 27 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block to help Washington begin Summer League play with a 1-0 record.
The Wizards' offense was supported by Tre Johnson, who scored 26 points, and Will Riley, who contributed 18 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
For the Utah Jazz, the No. 2 overall pick Darryn Peterson led the team with 24 points, three rebounds, and two assists, though he struggled from long range, shooting 2-of-7 from 3-point range. Other notable performances for Utah included Trey Alexander with 13 points and five rebounds, and Cody Williams, who recorded four steals and one block.
The game saw significant momentum shifts. Washington established a 29-18 halftime lead behind 11 first-half points from Dybantsa. While the Jazz closed the gap with a 25-16 third quarter, Washington responded with a 9-0 run. The Jazz finished the game with a late 7-2 run capped by a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Peterson, but could not overcome the deficit.
The Utah Jazz dropped to a 0-1 record in Las Vegas despite entering the game with momentum following a perfect 3-0 run at the Salt Lake City Summer League.
Washington is scheduled to continue Summer League play against the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, while the Jazz will face the Los Angeles Clippers later that same day.
