Canyon Crest Elementary School has announced a variety of upcoming activities and updates for the month of October. The school's announcements include information regarding food additive laws, student events, and scheduled meetings.
A clarification was provided regarding a new food additive law. Parents may continue to bring any type of store-bought food for birthdays or classroom parties. However, the new law applies to food provided by school staff, who are prohibited from providing foods containing the banned additives.
Several events are scheduled for the week of October 5. From October 5 through October 8, students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. each day for SEP Conferences. The school's Book Fair will also be open in the library during this time. On October 6 at 7:45 a.m., the school will host Donuts and Grown-Ups, where families can visit the Book Fair and enjoy a donut before school. School Picture Day is scheduled for October 7.
The school will host several community and family events later in the month. From October 12 through October 16, the PTA has planned Red Ribbon Week activities. A PTA meeting is scheduled for October 13 at 6:00 p.m. in the Canyon Crest Library. On October 14 at 3:45 p.m., a School Community Council Meeting will take place to discuss the Safe Routes to School Plan with Provo City visitors and review beginning-of-year student assessment data.
Additional literacy and seasonal events include the Provo READS Family Literacy Night on October 15 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Shoreline Middle School. Fall Break will occur from October 21 through October 26, during which there will be no school. On October 30, the school will hold Halloween festivities, including a parade at 12:00 p.m. and classroom parties at 12:30 p.m. Students may wear costumes to school and masks during the parade, though fake or toy weapons are not permitted.
