Northridge runners Evelyn Cook and Jeff Hazzard are looking toward the 5A state cross country championships scheduled for Oct. 27 at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City. According to a report published Oct. 13, the duo enters the postseason following recent successes at the region level.
Evelyn Cook recently won the Region 5 girls individual championship for the second consecutive season. Her victory occurred roughly two weeks ago in Harrisville, where she finished with a time of 19:26.75, approximately 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Brynlee Cragun of Box Elder. Cook's return to competition follows a season-ending stress fracture that impacted her track and field campaign last spring.
Jeff Hazzard secured the win for the boys at the same region meet with a time of 15:26.37. The Northridge senior, who was the 5A boys runner-up last fall, has competed on the state course five times throughout his high school career. Hazzard noted that the Sugar House course is challenging due to its hills and the fact that the entire course consists of grass.
Northridge, coached by Curt Bentley, features several state qualifiers, including five girls and two boys who appeared at the region meet earlier this month. The 5A state championships are scheduled to take place Oct. 27 at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City.
The 5A state championships are slated for Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Sugar House Park.
