Southern Utah University's online campus offers a Master of Education (MEd) in Higher Education and Student Affairs. The program is designed to prepare candidates to support post-secondary students through graduation while managing student services in an ethical manner.
MEd Program Curriculum Overview
The curriculum for the MEd degree consists of 33 total credits. This includes a 15-credit education core featuring courses such as Principles of Practitioner Research, Social Foundations of Education, Critical Pedagogy, School Law, and Becoming a 21st Century Master Teacher.
Higher Education Core Coursework
Students must also complete 12 credits within the Higher Education and Student Affairs core. This involves choosing four courses from options including Higher Education Law and Policy, Student Affairs in Higher Education, Organization and Administration in Higher Education, Student Development in College, Theory, and Practice, or Global Higher Education.
Capstone Research Requirements
The program concludes with 6 credits of capstone requirements, specifically Practitioner Research I and Practitioner Research II.
Academic Standards and Grading Policy
The program maintains specific academic standards for graduate students. All required courses must be passed with a grade of B (3.0) or better to count toward the degree. If a student earns a B- (2.7) or lower, the course must be retaken, and no other courses may be taken until the grade is raised to at least a B.
Probation and Program Dismissal Rules
Students who fail to raise their grade within two subsequent attempts will be dropped from the program. Additionally, graduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester. If the overall GPA falls below 3.0, the student will be placed on probation for one semester; failure to return to a 3.0 GPA by the end of that term results in being dropped from the program.
Program Completion Timeline
All graduate students are required to complete their program within six years of matriculation.
