However, more complex boats—those featuring ballast tanks, live wells, or in/outboard motors with unverifiable water—must undergo a 30-day drying period regardless of the season. This extended window is necessary because mussels have been known to enter ballast tanks and sea strainers after only brief exposure to Lake Powell.
Professional Decontamination Service Options
For those seeking professional decontamination, the park noted that the process can take an hour or more depending on the vessel's complexity. A faster option is available via dip tanks, which require at least two people—one in the vessel and one backing the truck—and take approximately 10 minutes to complete. While Jordanelle provides services, other dip tank locations include Utah Lake State Park, Willard Bay State Park, Sand Hollow State Park, Wahweap Marina, and a future location at Bullfrog.
AIS Vessel Enrollment Program Details
Motorized boaters must also remain compliant with the AIS Vessel Enrollment Program. The program requires an annual fee of $20 for residents and $25 for non-residents. This fee, which was previously collected by the DMV during registration, is now managed through this specific enrollment program. Once registered, all motorized vessels must display a provided sticker prior to launching on any state water body.
