Senator John Curtis expressed concerns regarding the impact of foreign beef imports on Utah ranchers and domestic supply chains in a statement published August 27.
Curtis noted that while the intent to lower food prices for consumers is appreciated, importing foreign beef at artificially depressed prices undercuts Utah’s family-operated cattle ranchers.
The senator stated that importing foreign beef poses long-term risks to the stability of the domestic supply chain.
With herds facing challenges across the country, Curtis suggested that solutions should prioritize a fair marketplace and provide regulatory relief for American producers working to build up inventories.
