This total represents the largest missionary force in the history of the Church, surpassing the previous record of just over 88,000 set in 2014.

The unprecedented growth in missionary service is attributed to a significant influx of 18-year-old sister missionaries beginning their service. This new wave of young teaching and service missionaries, alongside senior missionaries, has propelled the Church to its highest missionary count to date.
Leadership Marks Milestone
Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who chairs the Missionary Executive Council, announced the milestone via a social media post on July 14, 2026. Rasband stated that the all-time high reflects the faith and devotion of a rising generation of disciples of Jesus Christ.
Expansion of Global Missions
The surge in personnel has necessitated organizational expansion. To accommodate the growing number of representatives, the Church has recently opened 55 new missions worldwide, bringing the total number of missions to 505.

The record-breaking numbers follow earlier remarks by Church Prophet and President Dallin H. Oaks. During the June 20, 2026, session of the Seminar for New Mission Leaders at the Provo Missionary Training Center in Utah, Oaks noted that missionary work was soaring to new heights. He had previously indicated that the Church would soon reach its largest number of missionaries in its history.
