The Utah Mammoth began training camp in Salt Lake City with a focus on competition and preparation for the 2026-27 season, according to a September 17 report. The team's camp, which kicked off with physicals and media day on Wednesday, Sept. 17, features a shortened schedule due to a new collective bargaining agreement.
The 13-day training camp includes three initial practices before the team enters a preseason phase consisting of four games. Head coach André Tourigny stated that the coaching staff has adjusted its approach to focus on load management and working with high performance and sports science staff to prevent player exhaustion.
General Manager Bill Armstrong noted that the lack of time in this shortened camp requires players to be focused and effective immediately. The team's roster depth is a primary focus, with 55 players participating in camp, including 32 forwards, 18 defensemen, and five goaltenders.
Key players to watch include former first-round picks Dmitri Simashev, Daniil, Tij Iginla, and Caleb Desnoyers. According to the report, Simashev and Daniil played over 25 games for the Mammoth last season.
The Mammoth are aiming to return to the playoffs following their first Stanley Cup Playoffs appearance last year. President of Hockey Operations Chris Armstrong expressed excitement regarding the team's settled home status and the passion of the fan base as the season approaches.
