The shooting, which occurred on Sept. 10, 2025, took place during a Turning Point USA event hosted by Kirk at Utah Valley University in Orem. According to a congressional resolution introduced by Rep. Cory Mills of Florida, a gunman opened fire specifically targeting Kirk, a faith-based conservative spokesman and thought leader. The incident drew immediate national attention, with FBI Director Kash Patel stating on X that the bureau was closely monitoring reports of the shooting and would provide full support to the investigation.
Tyler Robinson, 22, of Washington city, was eventually identified as the suspect.
