A Tooele woman who was found fatally shot in her vehicle is being remembered as a hardworking and devoted single mother, according to a September 3 report from Gephardt Daily.
Silvia Bahena-Moto, 37, was discovered after Tooele City police responded to a report of shots fired at 11:58 p.m. on Monday. Bahena-Moto was found in her car, which had bullets in the driver's side and had been rammed from behind by a pickup truck belonging to Daniel Ruesga, 37.
According to arrest documents, Ruesga informed officers at the scene that a firearm had been left in the vehicle. Ruesga later admitted to intentionally crashing into the vehicle and shooting Bahena-Moto multiple times with a handgun following an argument.
The victim's four children, aged 4, 9, 10, and 14, were inside a residence during the incident and heard the event before finding their mother deceased.
Ruesga was booked into the Tooele County jail early Tuesday. He is being held without bail on charges of murder—domestic violence, a first-degree felony—and four counts of criminal homicide, domestic violence in the presence of a child, a third-degree felony.
A GoFundMe fundraiser titled "Support for Silvia’s Four Children" has been established to assist the children following the death of their mother. The account describes Bahena-Moto as a devoted single mother and a kind friend whose life was taken by someone the family trusted.
