Kingston Tosi scored 26 points in his debut to power Utah State to a blowout victory over Idaho State during the Aggies' 2026-27 season opener on Monday, Nov. 2. The win marks the beginning of Utah State's inaugural season as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, following 12 years in the Mountain West Conference.
Preseason Preparation
The victory at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum comes as Utah State begins its 122th season of men's basketball. The Aggies' preseason preparation included three wins against West Coast Conference opponents, including a 86-76 win over Denver on Oct. 10, a 97-89 road win at Saint Mary's on Oct. 17, and a 101-79 home win over Santa Clara on Oct. 24.
Previous Season Success
The Aggies enter the new campaign following a successful 2025-26 season in which they went 29-7 overall and 15-5 in conference play. That season saw Utah State win both the outright Mountain West regular season title and the Mountain West Tournament championship, marking the 19th conference title and 11th tournament championship in program history. The 29 wins recorded last season represented the third-most in a single season in program history.
Coaching and Postseason History
The program is entering a new era under head coach Ben Jacobson, who was hired as the 23rd head coach in program history on March 30, 2026. Jacobson joined the Aggies after a 20-season tenure at Northern Iowa, which included two NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances. Utah State qualified for its fifth NCAA Tournament in the last six years, notably defeating Villanova 86-76 in the opening round of the previous postseason.
Key Returning Players
The roster features several returning contributors, including Mason Falslev, the former Mountain West Player of the Year, and Karson Templin, the former Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year. Falslev enters the season 31 points shy of reaching 1,500 career points, a milestone achieved by only 13 players in school history. Additionally, graduate student Dallin Hall enters the season 14 points away from reaching 1,000 career points. Hall recorded 214 of those points last year at Virginia and 772 during his time at BYU.
