The Federal Highway Administration has issued a solicitation for the construction of bridges on Delicate Arch Road in Moab, Utah. The project, identified as UT NP ARCH 100(2), seeks to replace inadequate culverts with concrete bridges to improve water and sediment flow.
The scope of work involves a reconstruction and restoration project to design and construct 100-foot span concrete bridges. These bridges will be located at the Salt Valley Wash, Salt Wash, and Winter Camp Wash. The project also includes raising the roadway profile at each wash to accommodate a 10-year design frequency and to allow access for a medium-sized excavator.
Delicate Arch Road serves as a principal park road within Arches National Park and provides access to Delicate Arch. Because the road is heavily traveled and often congested during periods of moderate-to-high visitation, the current infrastructure presents challenges. Existing culverts installed during original construction in the mid-1990s and subsequent upgrades are insufficient for unobstructed stream flow and sediment transport.
The current inadequate conditions result in flooding and sediment deposition. According to the solicitation, these issues create unsafe conditions for visitors, trigger road closures, potentially strand visitors, and diminish the visitor experience. Additionally, the situation generates high operational costs related to traffic management, visitor safety, and cleanup operations.
Responses to the solicitation are due by November 19, 2026. The project is categorized under NAICS code 237310 for highway, street, and bridge construction.
