The Eureka City Council held a work meeting on August 10, 2026, to address several municipal items including infrastructure bids and community event updates. Mayor Robert Jenkins presided over the meeting, which included discussions on booster station reconstruction and the progress of the Wildland-Urban Interface ordinance.
City Engineer Dan Fechner presented several bids for the booster station reconstruction project. The presented bids included $154,000 from C&E General Construction, $164,350 from Whitaker Construction, $175,680 from JLR Contractors, $183,140 from Condi Construction, $185,500 from Van Con Construction, and $187,550 from Taurus Plumbing & Excavation. Following discussions, Jones & DeMille recommended Whitaker Construction. Because an addendum was added to replace a failed booster motor, which carries an estimated cost of $20,000 to $30,000, the city grant will not cover the full cost and the city must fund the overage. Mayor Jenkins noted discussions with fire personnel and the State regarding potential payment for the booster since it failed after a fire.
Mayor Jenkins reported that the WUI ordinance and map are still in progress and being developed alongside Fire Chief Lynn Elliott. Regarding the Tintic Silver Jubilee, Council Member Raeleen Maxfield stated that bands and inflatables are booked and the parade is ready. While specific numbers for car show entries or vendors were not provided, significant time has been spent on advertising.
During the consent agenda review, Council Member Kimberly Clements raised questions regarding city claims, which were addressed. Additional discussions included the hiring of Chelsea Bradley as an assistant crossing guard, janitor, and dump attendant. The council also discussed cemetery maintenance, specifically regarding damaged cement poles and suggestions for bringing water to the cemetery. Mayor Jenkins stated he is exploring legal procedures with the Attorney regarding the cleanup of buildings in disrepair.
The meeting adjourned following a motion by Council Member Tom Nedreberg and a second from Council Member Kimberly Clements.
