University of Utah Health Receives Board Approval to Acquire Land at Salt Lake City’s Power District for New Redwood Health Center
Oct 13, 2026
Following a vote by the University of Utah Board of Trustees, University of Utah Health received approval to acquire approximately 14 acres of land from Larry H. Miller Real Estate in Salt Lake City’s Power District, where it plans to build a new Redwood Health Center. Located on 50 N. Redwood Road between Interstate 80 and North Temple, the property will be used to replace U of U Health’s existing Redwood Health Center at 1525 W 2100 S. The project allows U of U Health to create a larger, more modern health care destination for residents and communities on Salt Lake City’s west side while remaining rooted in the area it has served for decades. U of U Health is committed to maintaining its current presence in the community throughout the transition. The existing Redwood Health Center will continue serving patients while plans for a new facility move forward. “This is a unique opportunity to reimagine how we provide care to an important community in the Salt Lake Valley and design a health center specifically around the needs of today’s patients, families and care teams,” said Gina Hawley, chief operating officer of U of U Health Hospitals and Clinics and associate chief operating officer for U of U Health. “Giving residents access to world-class care close to where they live is a major priority for us, and we appreciate the chance to work with Larry H. Miller Real Estate to follow through on that promise in an area we care about and have always been committed to serving,” Hawley said. U of U Health’s decision to acquire land at the Power District follows recent planning to expand the existing Redwood Health Center. As that planning progressed, leaders determined that a new, larger facility would provide the strongest long-term opportunity to serve Salt Lake City residents rather than expanding the existing building.
University of Utah Health's new Redwood Health Center will be rebuilt in Salt Lake City's Power District at 50 N. Redwood Road between Interstate 80 and North Temple.
By building from the ground up, U of U Health will be able to expand services, create updated spaces, improve workflows and accessibility, and design a facility that better supports the way patients receive care today and in the future. The planned location will also offer better proximity to public transportation, giving patients and families convenient access to UTA’s Redwood Road bus service and TRAX Green Line stations along North Temple. The land purchase is part of U of U Health’s broader commitment to improving access to care across the Wasatch Front and supporting the needs of Utah’s growing communities. Redwood Health Center will be part of U of U Health’s expanding network of care, which includes the Eccles Health Campus & Eccles Hospital now under construction in West Valley City, the new Huntsman Cancer Institute under construction in Vineyard, and a potential future health campus at The Point. Together, these investments are helping U of U Health bring care closer to where people live and create a more connected system of care across the region. The Redwood Health Center project does not impact the plans or timelines for these other projects. The new Redwood Health Center will be located within the Power District, Larry H. Miller Real Estate’s 100-plus-acre mixed-use development on Salt Lake City’s west side. Positioned at the crossroads of the Jordan River, downtown Salt Lake City, Salt Lake City International Airport and regional transit, the Power District is taking shape as a walkable riverside destination where business, community and recreation come together. Planned as a sports-anchored entertainment district, the Power District will bring together new housing, offices, retail, public gathering spaces and expanded access to the Jordan River. “Redwood Health Center is an important investment in Salt Lake City’s west side,” said Brad Holmes, president of Larry H. Miller Real Estate. “We’re proud to partner with University of Utah Health on a project that will improve quality of life and serve this community for years to come.” Planning for the new Redwood Health Center is still in its early stages. Additional information about construction, services, operations and the anticipated opening date will be shared as details are finalized.
