The Box Elder County Commission has deferred a decision to approve consent for the proposed Stratos Project. This delay follows concerns expressed by local residents during a County Commission meeting held last week.

The Stratos Project is envisioned as a state-of-the-art data center located in western Box Elder County and recently received approval from the Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA).

By postponing the final decision, the Commission intends to take more time to review the project proposal and evaluate the potential impacts and benefits for local businesses and residents.
Prioritizing resident input and concerns
County Commission Chair Tyler Vincent stated that the Commission is listening to residents and wants to hear their input. He noted that while there is excitement regarding potential job creation and investment from Stratos, it is the Commission's responsibility to ensure the project protects agricultural heritage, maintains local control, and addresses resident concerns.
New way to provide feedback
To facilitate communication, the Commission has created an online feedback form for residents to share questions or concerns directly with Commissioners.
Data center energy and design
The Stratos Project is expected to feature a large-scale data center campus supported by on-site energy generation. The project design aims to produce power directly at the site to avoid placing additional demand on the regional electrical grid, which is intended to help preserve electricity rates and reliability for local communities.
Upcoming meeting schedule and location
A special Commission Meeting to consider the project was scheduled for Monday, May 4, at 4:00 pm, at the Box Elder County Fairgrounds Fine Arts Building in Tremonton, Utah.
