SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Utah is in for a stretch of dangerous heat over the Pioneer Day holiday weekend, with a Heat Advisory in effect through Monday night.
The advisory
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Wasatch Front, the Tooele and Rush Valleys, and the western Uinta Basin. It began Friday afternoon and continues through Monday night.
That means a prolonged period of heat lasting multiple days, with little overnight relief. Bodies and air conditioning units will be working overtime, and this type of heat typically brings an increase in heat illnesses across the region.

How hot
Friday brought highs around 100° across the Wasatch Front and near 107° across southern Utah, with low rain chances and a spotty shower or two possible.
A ridge of high pressure retrogrades back west this weekend, allowing the core of the heat dome to move over Utah. Highs will run between 100° and 105° for many valleys along the Wasatch Front, and between 107° and 110° near St. George.
Next week
The heat dome looks to stick around through Monday before backing off a bit into midweek, which opens a slightly better chance for more monsoon moisture to sneak back into the state.
The cooling trend will only be a few degrees: highs drop back into the upper 90s along the Wasatch Front and to near 105° in St. George.
