BYU guard Robert Wright III has been named a preseason All-American by the Blue Ribbon Yearbook, according to a September 14 report. The junior is the only player from the Big 12 named to the first team in the premier preseason publication for college basketball.
Wright III, a 6-foot-1 guard and Wilmington, Del. native, joins first-team selections Thomas Haugh of Florida, Jeremy Fears Jr. of Michigan State, Braylon Mullins of UConn, and Tyler Tanner of Vanderbilt. In addition to the All-America honors, the publication named him the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year.
During the 2025-26 season, Wright III averaged 18.1 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. He shot 46.7 percent from the field, 41.0 percent from 3-point range, and 82.1 percent from the free throw line. He also recorded a career-high 57 3-pointers, including a buzzer-beater to defeat Clemson in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.
The guard recorded a career-high 39 points in an overtime victory against Colorado, a game in which he shot 12-of-16 from the field, 4-of-4 from behind the arc, and 11-of-13 from the charity stripe. He was named Dickie V’s National Player of the Week on Feb. 16, 2026, after averaging 34.5 points per game in wins over Baylor and Colorado.
Wright III achieved a pair of point and assist double-doubles, including a 10-point, 11-assist performance in a 98-70 victory over No. 23 Wisconsin at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. That 28-point margin of victory stands as the third-highest against a ranked opponent in BYU program history.
In league play, Wright III earned All-Big 12 Third Team recognition after averaging 20.4 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. He scored 20 or more points in the final four games of Big 12 play, including a 27-point performance in a victory over No. 10 Texas Tech on Senior night.
The BYU Cougars are scheduled to begin the 2026-27 season on Friday, Oct. 16, hosting Nebraska for an exhibition at the Marriott Center. Tip time and television information for the game have not yet been announced.
