A new project in Salt Lake City is funding the planning, design, and construction of bilingual signage at 10 community parks. The signs will be presented in both English and Spanish to help connect people to information about the park system.
This initiative follows a strategy outlined in the Public Lands Master Plan to create active, authentic, and inclusive spaces.
The project involves redesigning signage for several locations across the city. The 10 parks included in the new bilingual standard are Westpointe Park, Sunnyside Park, Pioneer Park, City Creek Park, Poplar Grove Park, Cottonwood Park, Rotary Glen/Donner Trail Park, Jordan Park, Riverside Park, and Liberty Park.
In addition to the physical signs, the project includes an update to the Salt Lake City Parks, Open Space and Trail Signage Guidelines to incorporate a bilingual standard. Public Lands has reported that the new bilingual signage standard is substantially complete.
The project was submitted by Public Lands through the CIP process and received funding in 2021. The current project status is noted as the installation of signs, with detailed design and installation projected to begin in Spring 2023.
