The Iron Fire, which spread across three Utah counties, reached 31,31 and 4 acres as of a Tuesday morning update with 9% containment. Fire officials reported that the flames exhibited extreme fire behavior, causing the blaze to spread quickly.
Mandatory evacuations were maintained for Eureka, Chimney Rock Pass, and surrounding locations. For those requiring evacuation assistance, officials directed individuals to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse at 15456 South 12800 West St in Elberta.
In response to the fire, Eureka City announced that the Utah Food Bank would visit Goshen on Wednesday as part of its regular route to provide extra food for evacuees. This distribution was scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Goshen LDS church parking lot located at 75 South Center Street.
Firefighting efforts involved the use of aviation, heavy equipment, and hand crews to secure the fire perimeter. Officials stated that priority was placed on protecting homes, critical infrastructure, and natural resources, while noting that firefighter and public safety remained the highest priority.
Highway 6 was closed between Elberta and Eureka, with authorities requesting that the public avoid the area until it was deemed safe. Additionally, officials asked the public to refrain from flying drones near the fire to prevent aircraft from being grounded.
A community meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, at 6 p.m. in the Apple Valley Elementary School gymnasium. Great Basin CIMT 3 and partner agencies stated their commitment to providing accurate information while working to protect lives and property during this disruptive time.
