October 26th, 2026 Halloween Safety Tips For Ghosts, Goblins, and Ghouls

The weather is getting cooler and Halloween is FRIGHTENINGLY close! The West Jordan Police Department wishes everyone a happy and safe Halloween holiday. As children and parents prepare for tricks, treats, frights, and dark nights it is important to follow these important safety tips this Halloween.

Trick-or-treat with trusted neighbors, families, and friends.

If you plan to be on the road during trick-or-treat hours, watch for children walking on roadways, medians, and curbs. Be sure to enter and exit driveways carefully.

Trick-or-treat in areas that are familiar and safe for children. Only go to places you feel comfortable taking your children.

Trick-or-Treaters should also wear reflecting or colorful costumes. Dark costumes make it very difficult to see children after the sun goes down.

Bring a flashlight for once it starts to get dark.

When in doubt, throw the candy out. Avoid candy that has loose wrappings, is completely unwrapped, has puncture holes, or is homemade and not factory wrapped. Small children should not be allowed hard candy, which can be a choking hazard.

Supervise children during the night. Young children should be with a trusted guardian or caretaker when they trick-or-treat. Older kids should travel together, stick to a route they’ve cleared with their parents, check in by phone regularly, and have a set curfew to return home.

Have a happy Howl-o-ween West Jordan!
