Educational programs across Utah are providing specialized training and resources this June, including autism support services at Utah Valley University and parent empowerment workshops through the Glendale/Mountain School District.
UVU Autism Support Services
The Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism at Utah Valley University provides various educational and training services aimed at improving the quality of life for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. According to the center, its programming includes the Passages Program for adults seeking independence and social skills, as well as the Wolverines Elevated Program for young adults ages 18 to 25 with intellectual disabilities.
Academic and Professional Training
The center also offers academic opportunities through UVU degrees and classes focused on autism studies, special education, and disability support. Additionally, the center provides specialized training for first responders and safety professionals to help them respond effectively during emergencies.
ESL Workshops for Parents
The Glendale/Mountain View Community Learning Center is hosting a summer session of Empowering Parents ESL classes throughout June. These sessions, held on various dates including June 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, and 17, are designed to help participants navigate the U.S. educational system.
Navigating the School System
The curriculum for these classes focuses on practical skills such as understanding report cards, reading with children, and engaging with teachers and Parent Teacher Associations.
Community Food Bank Event
In addition to educational programming, the Glendale/Mountain View Community Learning Center coordinated a mobile food bank event on June 11 in partnership with the Utah Food Bank. The program provided food assistance to community members while supplies lasted.
