The St. George Planning Commission held a meeting on July 28, 2026, to consider several development and zoning amendments. The session included public hearings for a new hardware store project and updates to city codes regarding accessory dwelling units and sign ordinances.
The commission unanimously recommended approval to the City Council for a Planned Development Amendment for Buck’s Ace Sun River. The project, represented by Sky Engineering and BH Architecture, involves a design and site plan for a hardware store of approximately 45,686 square feet. The property is located east of Arrowhead Canyon Drive and south of Havasu Drive in St. George.
Commissioners also unanimously recommended approval for a zone regulation amendment regarding detached accessory dwelling units (ADU). The request by the City of St. George aims to modify ADU standards to comply with recent changes in the State Code.
A request by YESCO to amend Title 9-13 of the St. George City code regarding signs adjacent to residential zones resulted in a failed motion. Following a discussion and a brief meeting pause due to a power outage, the commission determined the 3-2 vote against the proposed changes meant the motion failed.
During the meeting, the commission also approved the minutes from the July 14, 2026, meeting. Community Development Director Carol Winner noted she would report on items from the July 16, 2026, City Council Meeting.
