The Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team #4 assumed command of the Cottonwood Fire on Wednesday morning. The wildfire, located in the Fishlake National Forest, currently covers 96,333 acres and is 58% contained.
Firefighters are continuing suppression efforts on uncontained portions of the fire perimeter while monitoring existing containment lines for changes in fire behavior. Specific areas of focus include North Creek on the west side, Order Canyon on the east side, LeBaron on the south side, and the area near Lake Peak, Eagle Point, and the ski resort on the north side.
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the fire area. Officials noted that critically low relative humidity, high temperatures, and gusty southwest winds create a potential for increased fire activity, particularly on west-facing slopes where terrain and winds align.
As of the latest update, 1,249 total personnel are assigned to the fire, including 27 crews, 49 engines, and 13 helicopters. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Evacuations remain in effect for HiLo Estates, Merchant Valley, Eagle Point, Arrowhead Summer homes, and surrounding areas. Additionally, State Highway 153 is closed between mileposts 3 and 35 from Beaver to Junction.
A large area closure is in effect within the Fishlake National Forest affecting roads and trails. All BLM-managed lands west of Highway 89 between Bullion Canyon Road in Marysvale and the southern Piute County border are also closed. Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are currently in effect.
