The Amalga Town Planning Commission will hold a public hearing and public meeting on Nov. 4, 2026, to consider new land use regulations and fee amendments, according to a notice published Oct. 21.
One primary item on the agenda is the consideration of Proposed Ordinance No. 2026-10, which focuses on automotive service stations and truck stops. If passed, this ordinance would amend the Town of Amalga Land Use Management and Development Code to identify automotive service stations, including travel centers and truck stops, as a permitted use within the Light Industrial (LI) Zone. The proposed regulations would establish standards for site layout, design, construction, and operation, as well as rules for diesel truck idling, noise, lighting, fuel storage, and fire safety. The ordinance also aims to address traffic circulation, truck parking, overnight parking restrictions, and environmental protection to mitigate impacts on neighboring properties and agricultural lands.
The commission will also discuss a proposed amendment regarding appeal hearing fees. This matter involves establishing responsibility for costs associated with an appeal hearing, specifically whether the party found responsible for the matter causing the appeal should be required to pay the associated fees. The potential application of this amendment will be a topic of discussion during the hearing.
The public hearing is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and is expected to conclude by 9 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2026. The meeting will be held at 6590 N 2400 W, Amalga, UT 84335. Following the public hearing, the Planning Commission may provide recommendations to the Amalga Town Council as applicable.
Copies of the proposed ordinance and the appeal hearing fee amendment are available for public review at AmalgaUtah.gov. Individuals requiring special accommodations to participate in the hearing should contact the Town Clerk, Shantrell Ritter, at 435-764-4255 in advance of the meeting.
